Music is a thriving department based in the Sherratt Suite, a purpose built facility that opened in October 2005. Over two floors it has 4 classrooms, a recording studio, a music office and numerous practice rooms.

Extra-curricular activities are a real strength in the department, with many groups rehearsing on a weekly basis. There are regular concerts in Warwick Hall which are always well attended and display high quality musicianship in a wide range of musical styles. There is a team of 12 instrumental teachers delivering lessons on a wide range of instruments.

Every pupil studies music to Year 9, following a scheme of work that develops a broad range of musical skills and learning styles. Over 60 pupils study music at Key Stage 4, following either the Edexcel GCSE course or the new BTEC in Music. Post-16 we have 22 pupils studying either Music or Music Technology A-level.

To deliver high quality education in music to every pupil through challenging and stimulating teaching and learning.

To promote awareness, knowledge and understanding of music related issues.

To equip pupils with both musical skills and social skills which have relevance beyond the classroom.

To deliver the National Curriculum programmes of study.

To maximise the achievement of every pupil, to promote equal opportunities for all pupils and to ensure access to extra-curricular musical activities for all pupils.

To fully implement National, School and Departmental policy in accordance with the aims of the school.
