GBIT (Great Barr IT) are responsible for the maintenance and development of the IT systems throughout the whole of Great Barr School.
GBIT are split into 2 sections – Support and Services, and Design and Development.
Support and Services take responsibility for the maintenance and continuing upgrade of the IT Infrastructure, including network, computers and software, always conscious of delivering quality and value for money. We have a policy of replacing PCs after 3 years, maintaining the other equipment for as long as it remains useful. We also use Microsoft operating systems and Office packages so that our students are fully prepared for their future in the ‘real world’. Being licenced through the Microsoft Schools Agreement we are able to provide the latest software as it becomes available, when departments feel it will enhance the learning experience.
Support and Services are also in charge of user security (passwords, access rights etc.), and maintenance of user files in the form of backup and restoration.
In GBIT Design and Development we develop custom solutions and research current technologies to see how they can be used to improve teaching and learning within the school.
We also create rich media content to help enrich teaching and learning for both staff and students.
