
The Science department comprises of eighteen specialist Science laboratories, one purpose built computer suite and two A-level classrooms. Nine of the laboratories have Promethean interactive whiteboards and one laboratory has a Smart board. There are a number of laptops available for use throughout the department. Three of the laboratories have an inbuilt computer suite.
As a department we have access to a number of data loggers, cameras, video cameras, USB microscopes, and other interactive equipment which enhances pupils learning experience.
There are twenty-nine members of staff in the Science department, one is a dedicated teaching assistant for Science and there are also three AST’s who work within the department to promote new and innovative ideas. Each member of staff has a specialism which they teach at KS4 and 5.
In KS3 pupils are taught Science following the Connecting Science scheme of work at year 7 and 8 and the spotlight scheme of work for year 9. In KS4 all pupils follow the OCR scheme of work for GCSE, or the BTEC award. Pupils have the option to choose Astronomy or Separate Sciences where they will achieve a GCSE in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
As a department we also offer As/A-Level courses in; Human Biology, Chemistry and Physics and KS5 Science BTEC.
