
The Art department comprises 5 teachers and 1 full time support staff, who teach art and design, theatrical design and fine art. The department encourages pupils to think critically and reflectively about art and design and to use their imagination and intuition when producing art work. The support they are given allows the pupils to gain competence and confidence in order for them to take risks and experiment with ideas, materials, tools and techniques and ultimately produce dynamic works of art. They also develop their understanding of the different roles, functions, audiences and consumers of art and design practice.
Department Aims:
To give the students a sense of direction and purpose in their artwork and help them enjoy and use their imagination to complete original work with pride.
To develop student’s skill and understanding of art and design, encouraging them to do their best and achieve examination success.
To encourage students to use their personal experiences to develop, invent and communicate ideas through their artwork using various techniques.
To help students develop their knowledge of art, craft and design and understand its’ place in history and society.
To teach pupils about costs of materials and how to identify and solve problems using appropriate processes.
To develop students´ imagination and artistic judgement.
